Shirley May Lawrence Doss

Shirley May Lawrence Doss, age 90 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home in Lynchburg, Virginia. Mrs. Doss was born March 5, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late Gennia Rigney Lawrence and the late Johnnie Lawrence. She was married to the late James Milton Doss.

She was a faithful member of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church, she was a homemaker, and she and her husband were lifelong farmers until their retirement. She will always be remembered as kind, loving, and a devoted wife to her husband and family.

Mrs. Doss is survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Lawrence; her niece/sister, Sally Lawrence, whom checked on her each day, and they went to town together each week; her caregiver and cousin-in-law, LeeAnn Hundley (Robbie); and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Linda Lawrence; her brothers, Aubrey Lawrence, Samuel Lawrence, and Hilbert Lawrence; half-sisters, Ethridge Thornton (Cabot) and Myrtle Thornton (Joe); and her half-brother, Edward Lawrence (Lolene).

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Chatham Chapel with Pastor Rusty East officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawrence-Adkins Family Cemetery, 5205 Sago Road, Chatham, Virginia. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., also at Norris Funeral Service, Chatham Chapel.
