Cynthia Dowdy King

Mrs. Cynthia Dowdy King, age 71, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, at Cone Health Alamance Regional. Mrs. King was born on April 12, 1955, in Surry County, to the late Jimmy Hemmings and Zeneth Gray. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sibling and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In her spare time, Mrs. King loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, watching Little House on the Prairie, or listening to Elvis. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Phillip King; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Carannante and Luigi; grandchildren, Emily Hernandez (Chandler Stephens), Gabriel Hernandez (Gage Thompson), Hailey Hernandez (Michael Maneiro), Michele Carannante, Luigi Carannante, Jr, Tina Carannante (Jayce King), Sofia Carannante, Sal Carannante; fur babies, Cocoa, Oliver, Finn, Arnold, Ben, and Papi. In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Lee Dowdy; son-in-law, Gabriel Federico Hernandez; brothers, James Ray Hemmings, Frankie Hemmings. A funeral service to honor Mrs. King’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Dr. David Sparks officiating. A burial will follow in the Midkiff Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the King family.
