Barbara Caldwell Hash
Barbara Jean Caldwell Hash, 81, of Campbell County, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Barbara was born on October 14, 1944, in Rustburg, Virginia, the daughter of the late William “Billy” Eugene and Vivian Lucille (Riley) Caldwell. She graduated from Rustburg High School and married her true love, Thomas Ralph Hash of Spout Spring on June 10, 1961. She was his “Honey Bee.”
Barbara graduated from Central Virginia Community College with an associate’s degree in radiologic technology and began her career at Lynchburg General Hospital in 1973. As technology developed, she trained in ultrasound, CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine. She retired from Lynchburg General as a nuclear medicine supervisor after 20 years of service. Following retirement, she continued working with Alliance Imaging, traveling throughout Virginia as a registered PET scan technologist.
A graduate of the Amherst County Bible Institute, Barbara taught Sunday School at Grace Baptist Church for 30 years, where she was a faithful member for more than 50 years.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph; three children, Ralph Wayne Hash and wife, Sheryl, of Forest; Theresa Hash Martin and husband, Stephen, of Amherst; and Deborah Hash Campbell and husband, Jimmy, of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Zachary Martin and wife, Joellyne; Ethan Martin and wife, Miranda; Landry Coleman and wife, Samantha; Reagan Coleman; Olivia Smith and husband, Uriah; and Madeline Kranz and husband, Braden; 17 great-grandchildren, whom she adored; a sister, Alice Caldwell Williamson, and a brother, Tony Caldwell and wife, Cindy, all of Rustburg, and many more precious family members and friends.
Barbara will be remembered for her love of simple pleasures—hot dogs, onion rings, ice cream, and Diet Dr Pepper. She loved vacationing at the beach, spending time with family, and having lunch with friends and relatives. She had an amazing green thumb and took great pride in her beautiful home and gardens. She especially delighted in sharing ice cream and popsicles with her great-grandchildren.
Barbara also enjoyed visiting antique stores and thrift shops, often finding antique toys for her great-grandchildren to play with at her home. An avid reader, her favorite book was the Bible, which she faithfully read each day.
Above all, Barbara’s greatest legacy was her saving faith in Jesus Christ, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. This same faith is now being taught to her great-grandchildren because, as she often said, “I just want them all to be there.”
She will be deeply missed for now, but because of Jesus, a grand and glorious reunion in heaven awaits.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s honor to Allow the Children (www.allowthechildren.org) and Gleaning for the World (https://gleaningcharity.org), two ministries close to Barbara’s heart.
Friends and family are invited to attend her celebration of life service on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 337 Lakeview Drive, Madison Heights.
A private burial will follow.
