Garlin Issac Painter

June 9, 1941 - August 29, 2026

Garlin Isaac Painter, born June 6, 1941, to Acy and Ollie Norman Painter, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026.

Garlin was a faithful, loving, and hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to serving others and his community. He began his working career in the textile industry before answering the call to law enforcement. He proudly served as a police officer with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked until his retirement. After retiring from Henry County, Garlin continued his career of service with the Martinsville City Sheriff’s Office, where he worked in the court system until his second retirement.

Those who knew Garlin will remember him for his loving heart, strong work ethic, faithfulness, and the many good stories he always had to tell. His stories, personality, and presence brought warmth to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Garlin was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Christian Painter Moore, Catherine P. Grant, and Peggy P. Sims, and his brothers, James Cecil Painter and Charles Anthony Painter.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Lena Painter of Myrtle Beach; his son, Jeffrey Irvin Painter (Ginger) of Horsepasture; his stepdaughter, Cindy Gilbert (Jerry) of Myrtle Beach; two grandchildren, Shannon Collins and Amanda Ryan; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Collins, Riley Collins, and Milo Ryan, and many nieces and nephews.

Garlin’s life was one of faith, love, hard work, and service. His memory will live on through the family he loved and the many lives he touched throughout his years. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

A graveside service will be held Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Burial Park Mausoleum. Pastor Tim Mills will be officiating.
