Helen Frances Wright Harris

Helen Frances Wright Harris, 88, of Moneta, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on Thursday, March 10, 1938 to the late Claude J. Wright & Gertie Martin Carter. She was preceded in death by her half- brothers, Claude T. Wright & Michael D. Carter; special uncle & aunt, Jesse W. & Dollie Martin.

Helen was employed at Bedford County Department of Social Services until retiring after 29 years as a benefits Supervisor. She enjoyed travelling, camping, shopping, sewing, quilting, and cooking. Helen was an avid New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed watching Nascar racing, especially Richard Petty and Tony Stewart. She also enjoyed watching Virginia Cavaliers basketball.

Surviving is her husband, Kenneth D. Harris; daughters, Kimberly H. Blum (Rick), Kendall H. Moyers (Jason) & Krista D. Harris; grandchildren, Brianna Conley & Jacob Moyers; half-sister, Debra W. Calmes (Jeff); sisters-in-law, Toni DeLong & Geri Wright; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Bishop Anthony Hash officiating. Interment will follow in Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
