William "Bill" Esley Cheshire

William Bill Esley Cheshire, 84, of Martinsville VA went to be with the lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He was born to the late John R. Cheshire and Carrie Harris Cheshire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John R. Cheshire, Jr. and Claude Thomas Cheshire; and sisters, Virginia Cheshire Sims and Jean Cheshire.

Bill found great joy in crafting custom furniture and working with his hands through woodworking. He also had a love for gardening and generously shared his time and talents with others, often using his creativity to help those around him. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Bill dedicated many years to his work with Cheshire Brothers and Stanley Bowles, where he was known for his hardworking nature and dedication.

He is survived by special nieces, Claudia Atkins, Janet Altice, and Judy Nash; special friends, Mike Coleman, Ernest Carter, Jeanette Carter, Kayla Carter, and Christian Carter; a total of seven nieces and nephews; seven- great nieces and nephews; seven-great-great nieces and nephews; daughter, Frances Ann Petite; son, Ray Cheshire; and one granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel. A visitation will follow one hour prior. Pastor Glenn Stinnett will be officiating the service. Burial will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Burial Park.
