Macelia Lynnette White Hunter
Macelia Lynnette White Hunter, born September 14, 1944, peacefully departed this earthly life on September 4, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love, comfort, and presence of her family.
Macelia was a devoted lifelong member of Pine Street Baptist Church, where she faithfully served God and her church family in countless ways. Throughout the years, she served as church custodian; President of the Women’s Fellowship; treasurer and member of the Willing Workers Choir and Chorus; member of the Usher Board; church clerk; condolence clerk; chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry; and co-chairperson of the Hospitality Committee for 22 years. She also served on pastoral search committees and willingly assisted neighboring churches whenever called upon. Macelia’s love for music was evident through her service in the Senior Choir, Combined Choir, Willing Workers, Community Choir under the direction of Rev. Willie Cannon, and Resurrecting Praise Community Choir under the direction of Roger Patterson. Whatever the need, Macelia was willing to serve, always giving her time, talents, and heart to the work of God and the church.
Her heart for helping others extended far beyond the walls of the church. Macelia was one of the founders of Gift of Deliverance, an organization through which she and others prepared meals and fed more than a thousand people over many Thanksgiving seasons. She faithfully served as treasurer of the organization and took great pride in providing food, fellowship, compassion, and love to those in need.
Macelia also dedicated more than 25 years of service to the United States Forest Service. She began her career as a computer assistant and was later promoted to Support Services Supervisor. Her work took her across the country, where she served as a dispatcher and pay clerk for firefighters battling wildfires. Until her retirement, she served as manager of the African American Special Emphasis Program for the United States Forest Service. Her career was a testament to her dedication, strength, professionalism, and commitment to serving others.
Above all, Macelia was a God-fearing woman whose faith was at the center of her life. She loved God and loved her church, and she supported both however and whenever she could. Her commitment to raising her family in the church was unwavering. Her children and grandchildren were all raised in the church, and her influence reached far beyond her immediate family.
If you ever spent the night in Macelia’s home, you already knew that Sunday morning meant one thing: you were going to church. That was simply who she was. She believed in prayer, worship, family, and living a life that honored God. The lessons she taught through her words, her actions, and the example she set will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
Macelia loved her family deeply. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and making memories with those she loved. She especially treasured the time she spent traveling, laughing, and enjoying life with her beloved husband, Raymond. She found joy in being surrounded by the people she loved and took great pride in her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stuart and Tassie White; her son, Darryl Stewart; and her brothers, Robert White and Charles White.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, with whom she shared 53 years of love, companionship, faith, and family with Deacon Raymond Hunter; her children, Brian Stewart and Carlene Cooper; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, who brought her immense, joy, love, and pride; her brothers, Alec White (wife Darlene) and Tazell White, whom she adored.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the Connections Plus Team, Elizabeth Hunter, Juanita Helton, Dawn Franson, and Natasha Berryman-Jackson, for the love, compassion, support, and care they provided to Macelia during her final journey. Your kindness and presence meant more than words can express.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Macelia Lynnette White Hunter will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Pine Street Baptist Church, with Rev. Frances Stewart officiating and Rev. Dr. Thomas Harper delivering the eulogy. The family will be accepting visitors starting at 10:00 AM at the church.
Entombment will be made in the mausoleum at Alleghany Memorial Park.
Macelia fought a good fight, she finished her course, and she kept the faith. Though she has departed this earthly life, the seeds she planted through her faith, her service, her love, and the life she poured into her family will continue to grow.
Her voice may be silent, but the songs she sang will live on. Her hands may be at rest, but the work she did for others will not be forgotten. Her earthly journey may be complete, but the lessons she taught, the prayers she prayed, and the love she gave will continue through every generation she touched.
Macelia’s legacy is one of faith, family, service, love, and devotion to God. She leaves behind more than memories; she leaves behind a living legacy in the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, and church family who were blessed to know and love her.
Though our hearts are heavy because we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of the God she faithfully served.
