Georgianna Ellen Sulter, 83, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026. She was born on February 22, 1943, in Morristown, New Jersey, to the late Beatrice Virginia Carman and Harry Elwood Carman. Georgianna grew up in New Jersey before moving to Brandon, Florida, in 1972, and later settled in Virginia in 1977. She spent many years living in and around Chatham and Danville, Virginia, making a home and building a life centered around the people she loved most.
On January 19, 1962, Georgianna married Stephane W. Sulter, Sr. They shared 64 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories together. Stephane survives her and will forever carry the love and memories they created throughout their many years together.
Georgianna was a devoted mother to five children: Randy Sulter and his wife, Dianne; Renee Patricia Sulter, who passed away shortly after birth; Robin Sulter; Steve Sulter, Jr. and his wife, Kim; and Vikki Pettiford.
She was also a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Casey Hill and her husband, Vincent; Ashley Denzinger and her husband, Paul; Shawn Sulter and Mealie Sulter; Shanna Spradlin and her husband, Craig; Stephanie Johnson and her husband, Joey; Kaylee Sulter; Amber Props and her husband, Andrew; Joshua Veale; and Asia Sulter. She was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Although Georgianna worked for several years as a real estate agent, her greatest work and greatest joy came from being a homemaker and mother. She was a hardworking woman who devoted herself to raising her children and, throughout the years, lovingly helped care for many of her grandchildren. Her family was at the center of her world,
and she showed her love not only through her words, but through everything she did for them.
Georgianna had a strong spirit and a personality that was uniquely her own. She loved deeply, cared fiercely, and was incredibly loyal to the people she called family. She was never afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground, and she had an adventurous side that made life with her anything but predictable. Her spontaneous nature could turn an ordinary day into an unexpected adventure, and she embraced life with a curiosity and determination that those who knew her will always remember.
She loved making a house into a home. Georgianna enjoyed remodeling the many homes she and Stephane lived in over the years, always finding ways to make each one feel special. She loved cooking for her family and bringing everyone together for a meal. Her collection of elephants was another reflection of her personality and interests, and she took great pleasure in adding to her collection over the years.
She also had a deep love of family history and spent time studying her genealogy, discovering the stories and connections of those who came before her. She loved to travel, explore new places, and especially enjoyed seeing waterfalls. Her adventurous spirit and spontaneity created memories that her family will treasure for years to come.
More than anything, Georgianna will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence was woven into the lives of so many people. Her strength, loyalty, caring heart, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the memories she created will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
Georgianna leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Norris Funeral Home West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave, Danville, VA, will be handling arrangements for the family. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 pm and there will be a graveside service at Danville Memorial Gardens, 510 Church Ave, Danville, VA, on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 11:00am.
