Betty Swanson
Betty Swanson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Betty was born on November 27, 1944, in West Virginia, to George and Helen Lightner. As the oldest daughter in her family, she learned early the importance of responsibility, compassion, and caring for others—qualities that remained central to who she was throughout her life.
On September 1, 1962, Betty married George Steven Swanson. Together, they shared a lifetime of devotion, family, and memories, standing by one another through every season of life.
Family was at the heart of Betty’s life. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Rhonda Teets, Kelly Conway, and Jeff Swanson, and being a mother was one of the most important parts of her life. She was also a proud grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Jessica Boothe, Wesley Teets, Melanie Moussa, Benjamin Teets, Alexis Williams, Sean Williams, Camilla Swanson, and Madeline Swanson.
Betty was also blessed to welcome her children’s spouses into the family: Bryan Teets, husband of Rhonda; Bradley Conway, husband of Kelly; and Kristina Swanson, wife of Jeff. She loved them as part of her family and cherished the bonds they shared.
As her family grew, Betty was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Rosalyn Barnhart, Carmindee Linaburg, Jaxon Linaburg, Rome Moussa, and Rio Moussa. She cherished each of them and took great joy in watching the generations of her family grow.
Betty had a gift for making others feel cared for, protected, and never alone. She was a steady presence in the lives of those around her, offering kindness, love, and support. Her influence will continue through the stories, memories, and lessons she leaves behind.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Lightner, and her brothers, Roger, Danny, and Tommy.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George Steven Swanson; her children, Rhonda Teets and her husband, Bryan, Kelly Conway and her husband, Bradley, and Jeff Swanson and his wife, Kristina; her eight grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sue Shepherd and Judy Frazier; and many other relatives and friends.
Betty’s family will miss her voice, her laugh, her presence, and the everyday moments that made her simply Mom and Grandma. Though her absence leaves a deep emptiness, the love she gave will remain a lasting part of their lives.
Her family finds comfort in their faith and in knowing that she is now at peace. They believe she is in Heaven with her parents, brothers, and others who went before her, and they hold onto the hope that they will be reunited with her one day.
Betty lived a life shaped by faith, devotion, and service to the people around her. Her legacy will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10th at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11th at Mill Creek Cemetery.
