Eudora Earnest Poff
Eudora (Dora) E. Poff, born December 4, 1924, in Alexandria, Louisiana, entered into Heaven’s Gates on September 6, 2026, passing in Salem, Virginia at the age of 101.
Dora was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was an accomplished seamstress whose talents extended well beyond the sewing room. Being known throughout her community for her chocolate and lemon meringue pies, so prized that local restaurants sought her out for orders. She enjoyed her fruit trees consisting of plum, pear,apple, blackberry vines, often spending countless hours making jellies, preserves, and fried apple pies.
For decades, she was a faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church where she was a part of the fabric of the congregation sharing her unwavering faith.
Dora fought through polio and scarlet fever and won. She was told she would never have children, and she went on to have three as she was very brave.
Dora is survived by daughters, Denise P. Durham, Doreen P. Tolley, daughter-in-law Vickie Poff. She leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred L. Poff, Jr.; son, Ronald L. Poff; parents, Jesse and Lovie Earnest; special brother Floyd “Buddy” W. Earnest and Jesse Clyde Earnest.
Dora lived a full life marked by generosity, skill, grace and a giving heart. She found joy in the love of her Savior, family, friends, and making life sweeter for those around her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Dora’s name to a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10-10:45 am at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11 am at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home (540)366-0707.
