Glenn Oswald Thornhill, Jr. of Salem, VA, passed away on September 10, 2026. Born on March 30, 1941, in Roanoke, VA, Glenn built a life defined by devotion to family, service to his community, and a deep well of kindness that touched everyone who knew him.

A proud native of the Roanoke Valley, Glenn became a highly respected and successful businessman whose integrity, work ethic, and generosity earned him admiration throughout the region. He approached every endeavor with sincerity and a genuine desire to help others, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues, customers, and the community he loved.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn O. Thornhill, Sr. and Mary Fogg Thornhill; his sister, Joyce Whiddon Bruns; his sons, Wyatt Nelson Thornhill and Brian Hamilton Thornhill; and his daughter, Alyssa Chilton Thornhill.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Joanne Bailey Thornhill; his sisters Mary Alice Bodenhorst (Jeoff), and Mona Armistead (Bob); his daughters Christine Hall Thornhill (Sean Hyde) and Kelly Thornhill Farber (Corley); and his sons G.O. Thornhill III (Kris) and David Thomas Thornhill (Astrid). Glenn also leaves behind his nieces, nephews, and cherished grandchildren—Hunter, Olivia, Oliver, Ben, Lolly, John, and Lucas—each of whom brought him immense joy.

Glenn will be remembered most for his kindness, his unwavering thoughtfulness, and the profound love he carried for his family. His gentle spirit, steady guidance, and warm presence will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Glenn’s memory be made to the Salem Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice.

A visitation will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, VA, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
