Mary Dollarhite O’Dell

Mary Dollarhite O’Dell, 86, of Ridgeway and Bassett, VA passed away on September 10, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother affectionately known as GG. Her loving presence will be missed in ways words cannot truly express.

Mary Arlene Dollarhite entered into this earthly realm on March 13, 1940. She grew up on a tobacco farm in the mountains in Dobyns near Stuart, VA and at 16 she moved to the city of Martinsville, VA. She worked for years as a skilled seamstress at Pannills. Mary married the love of her life, Leslie Roosevelt O’Dell, on February 28, 1960. Together they raised two daughters whom they were utterly devoted to. Mary’s favorite moments included her countless trips to the beach with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Kathy O’Dell-Shepherd and son-in-law, Ricky Shepherd; and her beloved granddaughters, Kelsey Foley (Alvin), Hannah Shepherd (Sean), Jennifer Dalton (Jon) well as her cherished great grandchildren, Lily, Lucas, Ellie, Ethan, Carleigh, and Emmie Lou; and her sister Stella Hopper. She is proceeded in death by her other half, Leslie Roosevelt O’Dell and her youngest daughter, Cynthia Ann O’Dell.

A private service for the family will be held.
