Ray James Guill
Ray James Guill, 73, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born in Halifax County, VA on February 4, 1953 to the late Sarah Irene Crowder Guill and the late Willie Booker Guill Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Mrs. Barbara Turney Guill.
Ray was of the Christian Faith, and attended Central Boulevard Church of God, until a decline in health. He was a 1971 graduate of Altavista High School and also later graduated from Central Virginia Community College. Ray worked as a corrections officer for the Virginia Department of Corrections, for 23 years, previous to his retirement. Ray very much enjoyed NASCAR, Fishing at the beach, wrestling, and family gatherings.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a brother; Willie Booker Guill Jr. and wife Tricia of Altavista, VA; a half sister; Rhonda Swieder of New Castle, DE; three sister in laws; Sandy Turney, Sharon Clark (Keith), and Laura Hopkins (Ronnie); special nieces; Denise Tawous, Hannah Guill, and Ashley Wimbish (John); Special nephews; Dakota Dillard and Chris Turney; and great nephew; Brentley Wimbish; and numerous loving cousins and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by a little sister; Brenda Leigh Guill.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Commonwealth Home Health Nursing and his wonderful loving neighbors and close friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris West End Chapel, with Reverend Willie B . Guill Jr. officiating. A visitation will be held just prior to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris West End Chapel. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence.
