William "Bill" Boyd Riddle
William Boyd Riddle “Bill”, Age 85, heard the words My Good and Faithful Servant on Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1940, and he left this earth doing what he loved the most, holding the hand of his beautiful wife, Lois.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Riddle, and Geneva and Russell Riggs, his in-laws, Dayton and Melvina Smith, his best friends, Rom Matlock, Brenda and Roger Wood, and Bob and Linda Frazier, and some of the best cousins and friends that a man could ever ask for.
Left to carry on his memory and legacy is his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Smith Riddle. His pride and joy live on through his family of three daughters, Toni Robertson (Tim), Melissa Hale (Paul), and Anna Riddle. His grandchildren Ashley Hilton (Joey), Cliff Taylor (Anna), Chad Robertson (Cayla), and Kelcie Lowe and his bundle of joys his great-grandbabies, Amber, Mallie, Kowen, Tristan, Ace, Roman, and Sunny Kay. Also included are his cousins which were more like siblings, Judy and Loretta, brother in-laws Tony and Allen, and his bonus family Nancy, Heather, and Whitney Matlock, and Erin Burton.
Bill was a 1958 graduate of Narrows High School and continued his education at New River Community College and Concord University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management. Bill spent the early years of his career building professional foundations in insurance sales and dedicating many years of hard work to the Celanese plant. Following his retirement from Celanese, Bill founded his own plumbing business, which allowed him to interact directly with his neighbors and serve his local community in an even greater capacity.
Bill enjoyed the simple things in life, like relaxing in his chair with every member of his family gathered around him. He found joy in eating lots of sweets, taking long car rides, listening to Willie’s Roadhouse, watching football, carrying his wife’s purse, playing cards, and, most of all, taking care of and loving his family. Of all the titles he held in life, his favorite was “PawPaw Bill.” Bill also had a deep love for his community and dedicated nearly 50 years to coaching, volunteering as clock keeper, and supporting Green Wave Football. To know him was to love him; everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him knew him as PawPaw Bill from that day forward and quickly came to know the genuine, kind, and loving heart he carried with him wherever he went.
There are no words that can truly express how deeply he will be missed. Yet, through all of the heartbreak, we find peace in knowing that this is not goodbye forever. We will spend eternity with him in Heaven, and until that day, we will carry his love and the memories he gave us in our hearts.
PawPaw Bill would want everyone who loves him to remember what matters most: share kindness wherever you go, travel the world, make memories, and love your people with everything in you. Give freely, love deeply, and never miss an opportunity to let someone know how much they mean to you. There is no greater gift than love, and Bill gave that gift so freely to everyone blessed enough to know him. His greatest legacy will not be the things he accomplished, but the love he gave and the lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at New Valley Fellowship Church in Narrows. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 5:00 with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to New Valley Fellowship where Bill was a member for 62 years.
