Elizabeth Sipe Motley Sutphin

Elizabeth Sipe Motley Sutphin, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville, VA.

Born in Danville, VA on October 4, 1939, to the late, Edward Everett Sip and Nonie Murray Sipe. Her first husband of 35 years was the late Bobbie Lee Motley, and her second husband of 12 years was the late Clyde Lee Sutphin. She was an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Fieldale, VA.

She graduated from George Washington High School in 1958. She worked for Pruitt Insurance Agency and was in the insurance industry for 53 years as a licensed property casualty agent.

She was deceased by her only child, a daughter, Tamela Elizabeth Motley, who died in an airplane crash on November 17, 1986. She was also deceased by her two furry companies, Tinker Bell, a terrier, and Chico, a chihuahua.

She is survived by her sister, Geraldine (Gerry) Sipe Scearce (the late Cleveland B. Scearce); two nieces, Tracy Scearce Isley (David) and Christina Scearce; a great niece, Lyndsey Isley (John Luppino); a great nephew, Garrett Isley, two great-great nephews, John David Luppino and Carson Lane Luppino; a god-daughter, Brittany Hall Lay (Andrew); and her parents, William and Wendy Hall. She is also survived by a stepson, Clyde Lee Sutphin, Jr. (Karen) and a stepdaughter, Alisha Sutphin Budd (Brian); and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; a dear friend, Sanda H. Wimmer (Ed); and neighbors, John (JW) and Nancy Hines.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at Victory Baptist Church, in Fieldale, Virginia, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Brother David Naff officiating. The family will accept guests one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Virginia.
