Dewey Jackson Matherly

Dewey Jackson Matherly Jr., 77, of Danville, VA, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, while a patient of Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC. Dewey was born in Danville, VA on June 18, 1949, to the late Ruth Mitchell Matherly and the late Dewey Jackson Matherly, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Mrs. June Moss Matherly, who survives, of the residence.

Dewey was of the Christian Faith and attended Jesus on the Mountain services. He was a lead mechanic for Mohawk for many years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed farming, working and being outside.

In addition to his wife, Dewey is survived by a son, Christopher Allen Matherly; three sisters, Mary M. Venegas (Frank), Doris M. Danith (Sy), and Ruth M. Meadors, as well as his beloved Schnauzer, Abby.

A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Stanley Owen officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., at Norris Funeral Service, West End Chapel.
