Billy Gene Byrd

Billy Gene Byrd, Sr., 94, of Bassett, Va., passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026. He was born July 25, 1932, in Bassett, Va., to the late George William Byrd and Edna Mae Oakley Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan Oakley Byrd; and his youngest son, George Oakley Byrd.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he became a dedicated employee of Bassett Furniture, where he worked as a rough-end supervisor. He retired after many years of faithful service.

Billy loved to dance and was quite good at it. He was also known for his financial prowess and his love of golf. Above all, Billy was a loving provider for his family and took great pride in caring for those he loved.

Billy is survived by his son, Billy Gene Byrd, Jr.; as well as extended family and dear friends.

A graveside visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Roselawn Burial Park. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm., with Pastor Jason Alverson officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Billy’s friends, doctors, caregivers, and all those who provided love, support, and care throughout his life.
