John Matthew Shelton

John Matthew Shelton, 63, of Blue Ridge, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026. He was preceded in passing by his parents, C. Mark Shelton, Sr. and Dreama Horne Shelton; and his special brother-in-law, Wayne Painter, Jr. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed cooking, and watching his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. John was a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend. He would do anything for anyone if they asked him to. Left to cherish John’s memory are his sisters, Tanya Fanti and husband, Mark, Tamara “Tammy” Painter; brothers, C. Mark Shelton, Jr. and wife, JoAnn, and Samuel Shelton and wife, Sahalie; stepmother, Linda Shelton; nieces, Heather, Julia, Kathryn, Rachel, Micaiah, Hannah; nephews, Johnny, Nicholas, and Joshua; great nieces, Mariah and Ellowyn; and great nephews, Leatt, Trenton, Laegan, Cameron, Lucas, Miles, Brix, Jacob, and Bowen. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 - 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, with Pastor Danny Barham officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
