Sarah Elizabeth Smith

Sarah Elizabeth Koger Smith, 96, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. She was born on December 1, 1929, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late John Willie Koger and Willie Mae Moyer Koger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Wahberg, Beatrice Simmons, Bessie Hairston, Bonnie Koger, and Maggie Hairston; and her brothers, George Lee Koger, James Koger, Johnny Koger, and Peter Koger.

Sarah was a faithful member of Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church. She retired from Dupont, after many years of service. Throughout her life, she found great joy in caring for her home and family. She loved cooking, baking, and sewing and especially enjoyed working in her yard and watching her favorite shows. Most of all, Sarah loved her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and generations of family who followed.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Davis; son, William Smith; sisters, Phyllis Morrison and Dollie Meadows (Marshall); her caregiver and granddaughter, Teresa Ross; 10 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends daily from Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 954 Flat Rock Road Martinsville, Virginia from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
