Glenn Monroe Barnes

Mr. Glenn Monroe Barnes, 81 of Mount Airy, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 22, 2026, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Barnes was born on March 21, 1945, in Surry County to the late Monroe Dallas and Nannie Mae Simpson Barnes. Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, step-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Shelton Barnes; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Monroe Barnes and Suzy, Dennis Ray Barnes; two grandchildren, Alexander Monroe Barnes, Sarah Olivia Barnes; three step grandchildren, Skyler Rose Portnoy, Aiden Matthew Portnoy, Jonathan Ryan Portnoy; sister, Linda Barnes Chilton; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ronald Wood, Steve Tilley, Robert Nichols, Larry Atkinson and Bobby ShumateAA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Frank Barnes and Fred Clinton Barnes. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Zane Fishel and Reverend Dale Bass officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Temple Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Moody Funeral Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
