Nina Mae Barlow Beasley
Nina Mae Barlow Beasley, 93, of Appomattox, Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Lebanon, Illinois. She was the wife of the late Grover P. “Junior” Beasley Jr.
Nina was born on October 4th, 1932, in Appomattox. She was the daughter of Kenneth Vane Barlow and Mattie Pearl Gunter Barlow. She attended Memorial United Methodist Church, Liberty Baptist Church, and was one of the original parishioners of Grace Hills Baptist Church. Nina held a deep faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was active in Sunday School, the Church Choir, and participated in many social and public outreach programs of the Grace Hills prior to her relocating to O'Fallon, Illinois to live with her son and be close to her grandsons and great grandchildren.
Nina worked for the Appomattox Clerk's Office and then for the Virginia Department of Transportation (Appomattox Residency) until retirement. Nina was known well throughout Appomattox County as the first female member of the Appomattox Board of Supervisors and the first female president of the Appomattox County Rescue Squad. She was active in Appomattox's political scene supporting local candidates for District Attorney, Appomattox County Sheriff, and other opportunities and special interest supporting the citizens of the county.
Nina loved to travel and enjoyed many overseas trips to visit her son in Iceland and Italy, as well as a church trip to Korea. She also visited many of our United States throughout the years traveling with family and friends.
Nina (Mama) will be remembered by her son Grover P. “Tye” Beasley III who resides in O'Fallon, Illinois. She was so very proud of her grandsons, Travis S. Beasley and his wife Kelsey, and Joshua P. Beasley and his wife Shelby who all reside in the O'Fallon, Illinois area. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Emerson, Graham, Lena and Amelia. Nina was blessed to have many wonderful nieces and nephews, including Claudia Gordon Puckett from Appomattox, Linda Overton from Farmville, Debbie Sigmon from Buckingham, and especially cherished her niece Linda Hanlon's cards, flowers, and gifts to her "Aunt Nina".
In addition to her husband, Nina was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred Barlow and Warren Barlow; her sisters Elmina Guill and Aldah Gordon.
Finally, while the list of close friends was long, her best friend Joyce Bennett (who currently resides in Florida) was so very close, sharing many years of friendship, laughter and tears through life's many ups and downs. Likewise, Gene and Debbie Booze of Appomattox were very close family friends of hers and Juniors sharing many bowls of homemade ice cream on the front porch and fellowship at Grace Hills Baptist Church.
A memorial and graveside service will be held in Appomattox at a date yet to be determined.
