Michaelle Ann Cox

Michaelle Ann “Mickey” Cox, 79, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, September 24, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Byron Rhodes, Sr. and Doris Jean Rhodes.

Born in Maryland on May 13, 1947, Mickey made her way to Lynchburg in 1965 and served her community through a variety of jobs including for Miles Market/Jeds, Campbell Mini Mart and The Sunshine Market.

Mickey found happiness in the simple pleasures that made each day special. She enjoyed spending quiet moments sitting on her front porch swing, taking in the familiar comforts of home and enjoying the peacefulness around her. She had a special love for Elvis and could often be found listening to his music and enjoying the songs she knew and loved. Mickey also enjoyed keeping up with NASCAR and football, taking pleasure in following the races and cheering along with her favorite teams.

Above all else, Mickey treasured her family, and her grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart. She loved spending time with them, making memories, sharing laughter, and simply enjoying their company. Those everyday moments with the people she loved were among the things that brought her the greatest joy.

Mickey will be remembered for the warmth she shared with her family, the things she loved, and the many memories she leaves behind for those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

In addition to her parents Mickey was preceded in passing by her loving husband Earl Dennis Cox, Sr.; and her brother Byron Rhodes, Jr.

Those left to cherish Mickey’s memory include her children William Cox (Sara), Teresa Elliott (Steven Blevins), Dennis Cox (Becky), James Cox (Brittney Dillard), Denise Cox (Dallas); her eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her siblings Deanna Dowing, Jean Rhodes (Lonnie), Jeff Rhodes (Michelle); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended friends and family.

A celebration of Mickey’s life and love service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11am at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Bobby Brumfield officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 6pm to 8pm.
