Travis A. Wylie

Travis A. Wylie, 45, of Belspring, Virginia, passed away on September 22, 2026 surrounded by love and leaving behind a family, a circle of friends, and two young boys who meant more to him than anything in the world. If you knew Travis, chances are you loved him. And more importantly, Travis probably made sure you knew he loved you, too. Travis was a people person through and through. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel like they had known him forever. He had a heart of gold, loved people genuinely, and was the kind of friend who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. His circle was wide because his heart was wide. Of all the roles Travis held in life, none meant more to him than being Dad to his two boys, Drew, 12, and Reece, 7. He took tremendous pride in his sons, loved them beyond measure, and found some of his greatest happiness simply spending time with them. Whether they were fishing, dirt biking, exploring the mountains and rivers, or jumping from rocks into the water, Travis was happiest sharing an adventure with his boys. A native of Hampton Roads and graduate of Radford University, Travis came to the New River Valley for college and made the area his home. An outdoorsman at heart, he loved the mountains, rivers, and natural beauty surrounding Christiansburg and Blacksburg. But perhaps no place had his heart quite like the beaches of the Outer Banks. A surfer in his younger years, Travis never lost his love for the ocean. As the years went on, surfboards were often joined by sandcastles and kites as he shared the beach he loved with his sons and nieces. Travis spent much of his career in the retail industry, which suited someone who genuinely enjoyed being around people. He also had an undeniable love for sneakers, and anyone who knew Travis knew there was apparently always room for one more pair. Travis lived life fully and unapologetically. He rarely believed in doing anything halfway. He loved an adventure, a good laugh, his family and friends, and the opportunity to make another memory. Life with Travis came with stories, and there are countless stories that will continue to be told, retold, laughed about, and treasured by those who loved him. Travis is survived by his beloved sons, Drew and Reece; his father, Larry C. Wylie, and stepmother, Helen Wylie; his mother, Darlene Wylie; and Drew and Reece's mother, Monica Perdue. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: Larry Wylie, Jr., his wife Veronica, daughter Lara, and sons Colby and Briggs; Justin Wylie, his wife Monica, daughters Sumner and Evelyn, and son Jack; Matt Wylie and his daughters Ainsley and Bristol; and Megan Saunders, her husband Scott, and daughter Lainey. Travis also leaves behind Rebecca Cockrum, a dear and longtime friend who remained an important part of his life, along with their beloved dog, Slipperz. Rebecca was by Travis's side during his final moments and has remained close to and supportive of his family through the tremendous loss of someone they all loved. Perhaps Travis's greatest legacy is simply the number of people who have a Travis story to tell. His absence leaves an enormous space in the lives of those who loved him, but the measure of his life is not found in how suddenly it ended. It is found in Drew and Reece, the boys he was so incredibly proud to call his sons; in the family he loved; in friendships that became family; in days spent on the river and at the beach; in laughter, adventures, and probably more than a few pairs of sneakers; and in the countless memories he created along the way. To know Travis was to love him. And to be loved by Travis was something you didn't forget. A Celebration of Life honoring Travis will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends.
