Mary E. Dennis

May 14, 1946 - September 19, 2026

With love and profound sadness, our family announces the passing of Mary E. Dennis, née Giles, who departed this life on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born on May 14, 1946, in Axton, Virginia, Mary was the daughter of the late Peter and Martha Giles. Her life was deeply connected to both Virginia and Connecticut, two places that held special meaning throughout her journey.

Mary spent many years in Connecticut, where she built a life with her husband, Robert Dennis, and their family. She worked for approximately 25 years in sales and manufacturing and earned her high school diploma through the Adult Division of Central High School.

Throughout her life, Mary experienced the joys of watching her family grow across generations, as well as the sorrow of losing loved ones. Following the passing of her daughter, Renee, in 2015 and her husband, Robert, in 2020, she expressed a desire to return to Virginia, where her roots and much of her family history remained.

For our family, honoring that connection is especially meaningful. Mary will be laid to rest in the Giles Family Cemetery in Axton, Virginia, bringing her home to the place where her life's journey began.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Dennis; her daughter, Renee Dennis; her parents, Peter and Martha Giles; her sister, Fanny Giles; and her brothers, James Giles, Samuel Giles, Clyde Giles, Curtis Giles, and William Giles.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four sons, Richard Dennis, Robert Dennis Jr., Ronald Dennis, and Reginald Dennis; her sister, Sarah Giles; her grandchildren, Chanel Thomas and Damonee Dennis; and her great-grandchildren, Zoë Thomas, Adrianna Danae Dennis, Damani Prince Dennis, and Kalani Rose Dennis.

She is also remembered with love by her extended Giles and Dennis families, including nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends whose lives were connected to hers.

Mary's passing marks the loss of another cherished member of our family's generation, but her memory remains part of the lives and stories of those who knew and loved her.

The years we shared, the memories we carry, and the family connections she helped create will remain with us. Her life is reflected in the generations that follow her and in the enduring bonds between the Giles and Dennis families.

As we prepare to lay her to rest, we do so with gratitude for her life, respect for her memory, and the hope that bringing her home to Virginia will be a fitting tribute to her roots and the journey she traveled.

Although we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she will be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

Rest peacefully, Mom. Your memory will remain in our hearts, and your place in our family will never be forgotten.

With love,

Richard Dennis, on behalf of the Dennis and Giles families.
