Leroy McCroskey

William Leroy McCroskey, departed this life on September 27, 2026, at his home in Narrows, Virginia, surrounded by the place and the people he loved so dearly to enter into his Heavenly home to live eternally with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born on November 14, 1940, in Narrows, Virginia, to Ward Wiliam McCroskey and Lucy Lee Kerr McCroskey. He lived a long and faithful life marked by devotion to God, commitment to family, hard work, and a deep love for his hometown, Narrows, and the mountains of Giles County. Leroy was a Christian man whose life reflected faith and a steady example of a servant’s heart. He loved his church families and cherished the fellowship of God’s people. He was formerly a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Narrows, Virginia, and later became a devoted member of Goodwill Church of God in Christ in Eggleston, Virginia, where he served as an usher. He served his Lord faithfully in prayer and daily listened to scripture while having breakfast. His faith remained a source of comfort, strength, and hope until the end. Leroy’s family, friends, neighbors, medical care workers, and fellow believers will always remember that he ended his prayers with “in the name of Jesus”. Those who knew him will remember a man who lived with humility, integrity, kindness, generosity, and a sincere desire to walk in the ways of the Lord. Leroy’s life was also defined by hard work and dedication. He worked at Celanese in production for 28 years, where he was respected for his reliability and strong work ethic. In addition to his career there, he served the community as a barber for 62 years, touching countless lives through his skill, friendly spirit, and steady presence. His work was more than a livelihood, for it was a way of serving others, building relationships, and showing care for the people who sat in his chair. He carried himself with the kind of integrity that earned trust and admiration over many years. The joy of Leroy’s life was living in the mountains of Giles County, especially in Narrows, Virginia, where his roots run deep and his heart remained firmly planted. He was a proud supporter of the Narrows High School Green Waves and took great pride in his community. He enjoyed the simple blessings of life and found happiness in the things that brought people together. He loved guns and knives, hunting and fishing, cooking, making apple butter, gardening, and enjoying a good meal, especially when shared with those he loved. These interests were a reflection of who he was, a man who appreciated tradition, craftsmanship, the outdoors, and the fellowship of family and friends. Above all else, Leroy treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Parks McCroskey; his son, Jason McCroskey (Missy); and his daughter Cindy Stafford (Clay). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Jack Alderman, Kilian McCroskey (Madison), twins Molly and Cathryn McCroskey, Dr. Abi Broda (Kyle), and Clayton Stafford (Olivia). He is also survived by his brother, Roger McCroskey (Betty); his sister, Evelyn Gordon (Tom); his special fishing buddy, Derwin Gathers Jr.; several special sisters-in-law; his church family; and several special nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. His family was one of his greatest blessings, and he was deeply loved in return. Leroy was preceded in death by his first wife, Melba Harris McCroskey, and by his brother, Julian Anthony McCroskey. Though his family grieves their loss, they take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His life was a testimony to faithfulness, perseverance, and love, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Riverview Baptist Church, Ripplemead, VA. A funeral service will be conducted to celebrate his homegoing on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Riverview Baptist Church with Elder Calvin Lee and Pastor Tom Maurer officiating. Funeral services will conclude at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, Virginia where he will be laid to rest.
