Robert Lee Dove
Robert “Rabbit” Lee Dove, 77, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Stanleytown Health and Rehab. He was born December 7, 1948, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Clifford Lee Dove and Bessie Lawson Dove.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lee Blankenship Dove, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage before her passing.
Robert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith. Throughout his working life, he held many roles, including truck driver, electrician, and mechanic. He worked for Deshazo for more than 20 years.
Affectionately known as “Rabbit,” he never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone who asked. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, watching NASCAR and YouTube, and operating the backhoe. He also enjoyed gardening, driving, and spending time tinkering around the house. Milkshakes and buttermilk were among his favorite treats, and his dog, Leah, held a special place in his heart.
Above all, Rabbit loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed making people laugh, and his kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Dove Neely and Angel Lee Harter (Tony); sister, Janet Dove Smith (Carrol); brother, Gary Clifford Dove; grandchildren, Justin Wade Gilbert (Megan), Andria Gilbert Riddle (Nate), Austin Lee Johnson (Nicole), and Zackary Randall Harter; great-grandchildren, Matthew Wade Gilbert, Kirrah Riddle, Brysen Gilbert, and Alaia Blue Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Although services will be private, the family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and care shown during this time of grief.
