Joyce Hickman Potter
Joyce Hickman Potter left this world peacefully on October 2, 2026. Born December 12, 1941 to Marshall and Viola Hickman, Joyce grew up in Blountville, TN and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1963. At ETSU, Joyce met and married Bill Potter, who predeceased her in 2023. She and Bill moved to the Morgantown/Fairmont WV area after school and made it their home. They also traveled the country and eventually the world together.
Joyce was an amazing craftswoman and artist, and she loved to share her passion with others. She worked for many years as a traveling art teacher for the Monongalia Co., WV school system. In her free time, she became a very skilled handspinner and handweaver. She was a longtime member of the Designer’s Craft Guild of Morgantown and the Morgantown Fiber Guild, and she often took part in the Heritage Days at Bunner Ridge and historical events at Pritchett’s Fort. In more recent years, she was one of the Loose Ends Fiber Addicts in Grafton, WV.
Joyce is survived by her brother, M.C. Hickman, Jr., sister-in-law Mary Ann Taylor (husband Wayne), two nieces, a grandniece, and many friends.
She is being privately laid to rest by family at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA, next to her husband Bill.
