Barry Thomas McBride
Barry Thomas McBride, 83, born and raised in Amherst County, Virginia, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on October 3, 2026.
Born August 18, 1943, Barry was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas McBride; his mother, Ruby Rhodes McBride; and his sister, Lila Dawson.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of Gloria McBride for almost 63 years.
Barry was a proud graduate of Madison Heights High School, class of 1962. He played basketball and baseball with some of his best friends, many of whom he stayed close to throughout his life. Barry received the Senior Athletic Award and Good Citizen Award upon graduating from MHHS. He was the class president of the last graduating class of Madison Heights High School. The friendships that he formed with his classmates at Madison Heights High School remained strong and loyal throughout the years.
Helping and supporting the youth in Madison Heights through baseball was one of his passions. He spent many years coaching Little League and later the Dixie Youth League. Barry served as a manager, director, and assistant to the president of the Madison Heights Youth Baseball Association.
Serving at his beloved church, Sandy Bottom Christian Church, was also an important part of his life. He served as a deacon, an elder, the assistant chairman of the Board, and he taught Sunday School classes. Barry loved the Lord, and he loved people, which was evident in everything he did, including the way he lived his life.
Barry was a dedicated Nationwide Insurance agent. His clients valued his integrity, kindness, and calm demeanor. When they walked into his office, they knew they were in capable hands, and they could rest assured their business was safe with him.
In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by a son, Thomas McBride (Jennifer); a son, Jon McBride (Cami); four granddaughters who loved him dearly, Katie Ruberg (Michael), Lauren Hudson (Dylan), Claire Sareyka (Luke), and Ella McBride (fiancé, Jackson Marton); two great-grandchildren (and one on the way) who loved visiting their Papa and playing with him.
Barry was adored by his family, and we will miss him dearly.
