George L. Sumner

Mr. George L. “June Bug” Sumner, Jr., age 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, at Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Sumner was born October 15, 1951, in Forsyth County, to the late George L. Sumner, Sr., and Sarah Colleen Edwards Sumner. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, who will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Left to cherish Mr. Sumner’s memory are his sisters, Donna Lynn Brown, Brandy Renee Dowdy; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael Sumner and Janice, Tommy Sumner, Sr.,; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah K. Bridges; brother, Douglas Sumner. A funeral service to honor Mr. Sumner will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Rev. Joe Pyles officiating. Burial will follow at Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM until time of the service at the funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Sumner family.
