Glinda Ilene Smith Owens

Mrs. Glinda Ilene Smith Owens, 77 of Ararat, VA, passed away early Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, at Northern Regional Hospital. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia, March 11, 1949, to Iris Louise Willard Smith and the late Walter Preston Smith. She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church and loved to watch cooking shows. Granny loved to spend time with her grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Owens is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Gary Burkhart; two sons, Michael Dale Owens and Brian Owens; four grandchildren, Amanda Burkhart Hamm and Jesse, Kelly Owens Williams and Chad, Austin and Stephanie Burkhart, and Jason and Jasmine Owens; twelve great-grandchildren, Alyssia Register, Emily Register, Lexie Hamm, Maverick Hamm, Sterlin Burkhart, Henry Burkhart, Hazel Owens, Bowen Williams, Lettie Evangeline Williams, Charlie Brown, Layla Brown, and Willow Brown; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra Carolyn Smith Stowe and Blaine, and Margie Ann Smith Stowe; brother and sister-in-law, Walter Wade Smith and Eva; and by several other family and friends. In addition to her father, Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Woodrow Owens; daughter, Sherry Lynn Owens; granddaughter, Tiffany Nicole Burkhart Anderson; and a sister, Deborah Louise “Debbie” Smith Fain. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Rickey Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody’s on Sunday one hour prior to the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
