Nora "Gayle" Cherry Meadors

Nora “Gayle” Cherry Meadors, 75, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026. She was born on March 2, 1951, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Leslie Cherry and Willie Emerson Cherry.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 24 years, Homer Meadors; and son, Gary Lee Maxey.

Gayle was a woman of the Christian faith whose dedication and strong work ethic were evidenced throughout her 40 years of service at Dupont, where she worked as a spinneret operator. She adored her Maltese dog, Chloe, and was a fan of NASCAR, especially cheering on her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Gayle loved the Christmas season and enjoyed listening to the music of Elvis Presley. She and her late husband shared a passion for travel, creating memories as they explored every continent except Antarctica. Her love and kindness will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by step-daughters, Tina Slate (Michael), Tammy Belton, Chasity Meadors; stepson, Tracy Meaders; sister, Sherry Janey; brother, William “Bill” Cherry (Lynne); numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Chad Janey officiating.
