Maria C. Vasquez
Maria C. Vasquez, 71, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in the comfort of her home in Martinsville, Virginia, surrounded by her children. Born on May 3, 1955, in Cali, Colombia, she leaves behind a legacy of love as a caretaker, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Throughout her life, Maria was a resilient and resourceful doer. She loved nothing more than a project to tackle, whether it was planning a family party or remodeling a bathroom. She could do it all with style and grace, uniquely Maria.
Maria’s greatest passion was her grandchildren. She was always ready to take them on an adventure, with presents and candies in hand. Shared laughter and memories with “Ita Papita Frita” will resonate in our hearts forever. Her home was full of plants she nurtured—all carefully tended and beautifully growing—a testament to the love she carried for everything and everyone.
Maria’s love for “un cafecito” was no secret. She found an incredible community at her local coffee shop, the Ground Floor, where she would regularly visit for a cortado and post the beautifully crafted latte art.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo E. Vasquez, and survived by her daughter, Claudia Vasquez; her sons, Andres Vasquez and Pedro Vasquez; and her grandchildren, Thomas Devivo, Daniel Devivo, Lucas Vasquez, Gavin Vasquez, and Charlie Vasquez.
