Leonard Clinton Hall
Reverend Leonard Clinton Hall, 82, of Bassett, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 29, 2026. He was born on June 13, 1944, in Russell County, Virginia, to the late Ezra C. Hall and Clarice Martin Hall.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his brother, Ezra Eugene "Pete" Hall (Barbara Sue).
Leonard was a man whose life was rooted in faith, guided by love, and devoted to serving the Lord. His greatest desire was to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone he met. For more than 50 years, he faithfully preached the Gospel, offering words of hope, encouragement, and spiritual guidance to countless people. He also served as a pastor for 30 plus years at Free Worship Baptist Church, dedicating his life to shepherding others, strengthening their faith, and reminding them of God's unfailing love.
Leonard's life was a testimony to his unwavering faith and his commitment to the Lord's calling. He welcomed opportunities to talk with others about Jesus, never missing a chance to share the message of salvation and the hope found in Christ. His ministry reached far beyond the pulpit, as his kindness, compassion, and genuine love for people were evident in the way he lived each day. He believed that sharing the Gospel was not simply something a person did on Sunday, but a calling to be lived out every day.
As Scripture reminds us in Matthew 25:21, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." These words beautifully reflect Leonard's life of faithful service and devotion. His family finds comfort in knowing that the man who spent so many years telling others about the promises of Heaven is now at peace in the presence of the Savior he loved and served.
Beyond his ministry, Leonard found great joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved gardening, taking pleasure in watching things grow and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Whether tending to his garden, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time hunting and fishing, Leonard was grateful for the peaceful moments that reminded him of the Lord's handiwork. He also enjoyed watching hummingbirds, finding beauty and wonder in these small but remarkable creatures. These quiet moments brought him happiness and served as reminders of the goodness of God in everyday life.
Above all, Leonard loved his family. They were a treasured part of his life, and the time he spent with them was precious to him. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family was a reflection of the love he shared so freely with others. He will be remembered not only for his years of preaching and pastoral service, but also for his love, his conversations, his faith, and the memories he created with those closest to him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Linda Joyce Hall; his daughter, Tonya Joyce Hall Barnes, and her husband, Brandon; his son, Stephen Anthony Hall, and his wife, Victoria Lee; his sister, Mary Sue Salyer; his brothers, Reverend Elwood Hall and his wife, JoAnn, and Curtis Hall and his wife, Wanda; and his three grandchildren, Tabitha Machell, Lincoln, and Windsor. He is also survived by numerous other relatives, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his ministry and friendship.
Though his earthly ministry has come to an end, the seeds of faith he planted in the hearts of others will continue to grow. The words he spoke, the prayers he prayed, the lives he encouraged, and the love he shared will remain a lasting part of his legacy. His family and friends will miss his presence deeply, but they can take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope of a joyful reunion in Heaven.
Leonard's life reminds us that a life well lived is not measured by earthly possessions or accomplishments, but by the love we give, the faith we keep, and the lives we touch along the way. He spent his life pointing others toward Jesus, and his greatest legacy will be the countless ways he reflected Christ's love to the world.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Your work here is finished, your race is run, and your eternal home awaits.
