Gary Walter Cooper

Gary Walter Cooper, 67, of Rocky Mount, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Gary was born in Rocky Mount, Virginia on December 21, 1958 to his loving parents, Roy and Lucy Cooper who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his brother-in-law Mervin Peters. Gary enjoyed the simple things in life; spending time with family and friends, driving around in his beloved Subaru, watching the game, be it baseball football, or basketball, and of course, listening to his extensive collection of vinyl LP records. He was an artist and a scholar who attended Radford University, VCU, and Ferrum College. Gary will always be remembered as an all around good guy. Gary leaves behind his sister, Carolyn Neff (Winifred), his niece, Tammy Peters (JC Turner), great-niece Ashley Hodges (Daniel Rhodes), great nephew, Brenden Hodges (Chelsea) and his great-great nephew and niece Barnett and Brailynn. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his Carilion Hospice team for their loving care and support, throughout Gary's illness. At Gary's request, cremation will take place with a private Celebration of Life service to be held a later date. To honor Gary, TURN UP THE MUSIC!
