Carl Wesley Arrington

July 18, 1938 - November 6, 2026

Carl Wesley “Sleepy” Arrington, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, November 6, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Willie Andrew Arrington and Annie Virginia Tucker Arrington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three daughters, Gail A. Kidd, Janet Jones, and Brenda Allen; his sister, Patricia Kidd; and one grandson.

Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Rock Tenn, where he worked until his retirement. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 274, where he enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of his fellow veterans.

Affectionately known as “Sleepy,” Carl was an excellent pool player who enjoyed a good game and the friendly competition that came with it. He was also talented at working with his hands and could often be found repairing lawn mowers and garden equipment. Above all, Carl treasured his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Jordan Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Vaughan and Annette Mays; his brother, William C. “Bill” Arrington; his nephew and best friend, Stephen Kidd and his wife, Pam; his very special friend, Geraldine McFadden; eight grandchildren, Chris, Tabitha, Tony Jr., T.J., Misty, Heather, Harold, Destiny and Milissa; a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

A service celebrating Carl's life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Pastor Carlton Dunn, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
