Louis Wilson Rakes

July 2, 1934 - January 25, 2021

Louis Wilson Rakes, 86, passed away at his home in the Sanville area on the morning of January 25, 2021. He was born July 2, 1934, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Wilson Carper Rakes (1911-1986) and the late Christine Ann Michael (1911-1993). He was also pre-deceased by two brothers; Robert Edward Rakes (1928-1992) and Gerald Eugene Rakes (1932-2017), a stepdaughter-in-law Elizabeth Carrell Reed Wright (1941-2014) (wife of Tom) and one great grandchild.
Louis leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Patricia Jane Ferguson Rakes. They would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary on February 3rd. Also left behind is one son, Louis Wilson Rakes Jr. of Stuart with three daughters and three grandchildren: three step-children; Sandra Lester and husband Billy of Rocky Mount with three daughters, two grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Thomas Virgil (Tom) Wright of Bassett and James Wright of Maryland with one daughter and one granddaughter, and two sisters; Barbara Susan Rakes Durham and husband Harold, Tammy Denise Rakes Clifton and husband Joel and numerous nephews and nieces.
Louis was a veteran of the United States Air Force. The man loved to talk. He always had a story to tell about his time in Texas and his road trips home to see his mom.
Louis was a member of Collinsville Baptist Church where he attended faithfully till his illness kept him home. He worked for a long time and retired from Fieldcrest Mills in Fieldale.
Because of the Covid-19 virus there will be no formal service at this time. His remains will go to Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville. There will be a Memorial Service after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
