Phyllis Elmore was born in Good View, Virginia to Roy and Ella Hawkins. She attended school in Bedford County, and graduated from the school at Moneta in 1957. She was married to Ray Elmore from 1963 until his death September 17, 1991. She was employed by the State of Virginia and retired in 1995. Phyllis moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2002 and was an active volunteer for years with Chaires Elementary School. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA and Morningside Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL and a longtime active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority (Preceptor Chi local chapter).
She is survived by her two sisters, Bertha Hawkins Takach and Sarah Darlene Hawkins, and her two nieces, Belinda Takach France (Michael Leggett) and Brenda Takach Lipply (John), her grandnieces, Victoria McCormick (Brian), Jordyn Lipply, Sydney Lipply, Veronica France, and grandnephew, Bruce France, along with two great-grandnephews, James and George McCormick.
A brief service will be held starting at 4:30 pm with family visitation following from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Beggs Funeral Home, 3322 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Family visitation in Roanoke, Virginia will be on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road SW, Roanoke, VA, with a graveside service and burial at Mountain View Cemetery, 1401 Mountain View Rd, Vinton, VA on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 10:00 am.
