Katie Faye Stancil Critcher Hill
Katie Faye Stancil Critcher Hill, 90, of Chesterfield, VA was redeemed by her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 3, 2021.
Katie was born in Benson, NC, on May 28, 1931, as the youngest child of Beulah and Harvey Stancil. Shortly after graduating from Benson High School, she pursued a profession in cosmetology and ultimately owned a salon in Garner, NC. She continued her cosmetology interests after moving to Winchester, VA, but eventually transitioned into the real estate profession. While there, she founded the Toast Mistress Club of Winchester and the surrounding Shenandoah Valley. In 1972, Katie relocated to Salem, VA. During her 42 years residing there, she enjoyed her church family, her friends, and her community. As an active member of Salem Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School Director, formed the Singles Group, and became one of the first female deacons. In addition, she served on various committees such as the Pastor Search, the Finance/Budget, and Floral Committee.
Katie also led the efforts to restore and reinstall the original stained-glass pieces at the church and created the Prayer Garden. As a member of her community, she participated in and held leadership roles in both the Conehurst Extension Homemakers Club and the Friendship Garden Club. Over the years, she also enjoyed renovating and building homes as well as developing the Emerald Hills neighborhood.
Katie is survived by her daughters, Susan Critcher Rhodes, Belinda Critcher Thomas (Jeff), of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Wanda Critcher Akers (Tim); grandson, T. David Akers II (Katie); great-grandsons, T. David Akers III and Carter Akers; granddaughter Sarah Akers Richardson (Michael); great-granddaughters, Camden, and Peyton Richardson, all from the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
A funeral service will be held at Salem Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at noon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hodges Chapel PFWB Church Cemetery, 780 Hodges Chapel Rd. Benson, NC 27504. Kendall Johnson will be officiating.
