Louis Wysong Ribble, Jr.
Louis Wysong Ribble, Jr., 83, of Roanoke went to spend eternity with his Lord and his wife, Ileada on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
He was born in Roanoke, VA, the son of the late Louis Sr. and Nora Ribble, and grew up as a member of the Hollands Rd. Gang of Friends in Roanoke. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 for a four-year tour, and then transferred to the Army for the remainder of his 20-year service to our country.
In between the two, he met and married Ileada and began their family. His years of service allowed him to travel the country and the world, living in three countries and six states. He served three tours in the Vietnam war where he earned many medals for meritorious service, including a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for valor. Upon retiring from the military, he became his own boss with his air conditioning and appliance service, “Ribble’s Repair”. He was able to schedule his repair services around his true priority of playing golf and cards at Ole Monterey Golf Course and then later Blue Hills Golf Club. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Willie “Baby” Dee, and her husband Jimmy Tyree.
Louis is survived by two sons, Tim Ribble and wife Jeanie; Louis Ribble and wife Beth; a daughter, Dixie Williams and husband Paul; eight grandchildren; 3 brothers, David “Pug” Ribble and wife Chrissy; Ed Ribble and wife Sylvia; Johnny Ribble and friend Jill Apperson; a sister, Sarah Spickard and her husband Dale; and many nieces, nephew and cousins, all of whom he loved greatly.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021, in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Entombment will be held immediately following the service at Sherwood Memorial Park. Rev. Chris Kingery will be officiating.
