Maggie Pernell Richardson

January 27, 1939 - September 8, 2021

Maggie Pernell Richardson, daughter of the late Arthur and Maggie Hodge Gravely, was born January 27, 1939 in Martinsville, Virginia. She departed this life on September 8, 2021 at the age of 82, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina.

Maggie was united in marriage to the late Harry C. Richardson on June 25, 1955, and to this union was born two sons. She attended Henry County public schools. She worked at Jobbers Pant Factory for a number of years, and later became employed with the Tultex Corporation until she retired in 1999. Maggie was a loving Mother, she enjoyed cooking and had a smile for all she came in contact with.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Bertha G. Gravely, Louise G. Dawkins, Verna G. Martin, Thelma Gravely, Rachael Gravely, and Lois G. Hairston; and four brothers, James C, Gravely, William C. Gravely, Clay L. Gravely and Charlie M. Gravely.

Maggie began her official walk with God on March 16,1969 when she joined the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Sam W. Adams. She was baptized on May 4, 1969 and became a faithful member of the Usher Board for a number of years. In January 2010 she united with what is now First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John F. Adams.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Bernard Richardson (Marlana) of Martinsville, and Eric Richardson of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; two sisters, Mildred V. Brown and Hildred G. Gravely of Martinsville; sister-in-law, Myrtle R. Carter of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Kameko Smith, Ashley Knigge, Tajiyona Hairston, and Lucy Richardson; and two great-grandchildren, Jahliyah Adams and Timareon Adams whom she loved dearly; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, other family relatives and friends.

The funeral will be Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A floating visitation will be Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
