Frank McDarris
Frank McDarris, 98, of Forest Chapel Road, Pamplin, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Charlotte Shelton McDarris.
Born in Hot Springs, NC, October 18, 1922, he was a son of the late Dahlia and Canara McDaris. Frank attended Piney Ridge United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was stationed in India and Burma. Frank served as telegraph operator for his unit and had the privilege of receiving the telegraph WWII was over and shared the news with his unit. He was a retired telegraph operator from Southern Railway with over 40 years of service. Frank loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Cheryl M. Thomas, Steve McDarris and Joey McDarris; step-son, Clarke Campbell and wife, Traci; step-grandson, Samuel Campbell and wife, Samantha; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one step-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved their “Papa Frank”.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. David Drinkard officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
