Jeffrey Coy Cox, 50, of Salem, passed away at UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jodi Foster Cox and his sister, Sally.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Heather L. Cox; daughter, and apple of his eye, Kristen Cox, of Ankeny, Iowa; uncle, Joe Ray Miller, of Thaxton, Va.; aunt, Lorraine Easter, of Chesapeake, Va.; cousins, Donnie Miller (Kristin), of Roanoke, Travis Miller (Erin), of Elliston, Willie Miller, Hannah Miller, and Danny Miller (Brittany), all of Bluefield, W. Va., Patty Easter and Jay Easter (Carol), all of Chesapeake; and many more special cousins, friends, and beloved cats, “Prancer” and “Shadow.”

Jeff retired from Kroger in 2018, with 30 years of faithful service as a head meat department manager. His biggest heartache in life was his inability to become a US Marine, like his dad. He made it his mission to love and support all veterans, past and present.
Jeff also loved soaking up the sun at the ballpark watching the Red Sox, especially during Star Wars night, as well as drumming out to his favorite Metallica hits.
Above it all, Jeff will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and friend to all that knew him. He was a very special man!

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be conducted on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 4 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son funeral home. Pastor Sam Caldwell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time of the service on Saturday.

The family would like to offer their appreciation to the UVA Transplant team, UVA 4’th floor North ICU team, Dr. Robert Keeley, and Roanoke Memorial 6’th floor Mountain ICU team, for the love, support, and care given to Jeff and his family during these difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Jeff’s memory to CF Foundation, VA Chapter; 7202 Glen Forest Dr., Suite 102; Richmond, VA 23226, or to the Veterans Organization of your choice.
