Vera Bell Hagwood

Vera Bell Hagwood, 80, of Martinsville, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at her home. She was born April 14, 1941, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Charlie Hylton Hagwood and Martha Ruth Reynolds Hagwood. She had been employed by G.S. Industries of Bassett for over 30 years before retiring. She was a member of The Galilean House of Worship. Going to church was her life, and she also enjoyed walking, cooking, singing, and sitting on the porch.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Herman Thomas Hagwood; sisters, Bessie Reynolds, Annie Hairston, Shirley Hagwood and Eva Hairston; and brothers, Thomas Hagwood and Richard Hagwood.

Vera is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ann Hagwood, Melissa H. Preston (Ronald), and Montreia H. Purcell (Joshua); sons, James Gregory Hagwood and Carl Edward Hagwood; sister, Carrie Elizabeth Penn; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.
