Linda Sue Duncan Bixby

June 8, 1942 - December 6, 2021

Linda Sue Duncan Bixby, 79 of Roanoke, was reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, December 6, 2021.

She was born June 8, 1942, in Little Rock, AR, daughter of the late Roy and Phoebe Gertrude Jordan Duncan.
From an early age, Linda displayed a tenacity to overcome adversity, which laid the foundation for the success of her children and grandchildren, of whom she was most proud. She was known to shed a tear of pride and joy at the accomplishment of her grandchildren, not recognizing the integral role she had played in their success.

Linda's love for others did not stop within the confines of her household. She found great joy in finding ways to help others even at a time in her life when she began to require help. Her ingenuity in this endeavor was often quite impressive.

Her home was often open to those a little less fortunate. She certainly modeled Jesus’ example as he spoke in Mathew 25:40, “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah L. Duncan Jones and Sonia L. Duncan, and her brother, Roy F. Duncan.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Linda “Lorie” Bixby, Leigh Ann Bixby Dermott
(Michael), and Charles Douglas Bixby (Anne); grandchildren, Carli Michelle Bostic-Bixby (David), Cayla Raine Bostic-Bixby (Shawn), Evan Michael Dermott (Morgan), Landon Elliott Dermott (Caroline), Mason Lee
Dermott (Lauren), Camryn Leighann Dermott, Christopher Austin Sessoms, Logan Leighann Bixby, and Brianna DeHart; and her sisters, Sandra L. Duncan and Nancy J. Duncan Disbrow, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends, including her beloved community at Richfield Retirement.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, as well as
Fort Lewis Fire and Rescue, for the compassionate care and attention given to Linda when it was most needed.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be conducted Friday, December 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, in Salem. Pastor Danny Wright will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on December 10, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Linda’s memory to Angels of Assisi, 415 Campbell Ave SW,
