Eugene Henry Grim
Eugene Henry Grim,74, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Sr. and Frances Grim; brothers, John, Edward, Marshall Jr., and Richard Grim; as well as his sister, Cindy Grim.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Carol Grim; daughters, Melissa Wray (Jackie),Kristin Umbarger (Dan); grandchildren, Cheyenne Umbarger and Dakotah Hawkins; sisters-in-law, Donna Venable (Gary) and Elaine Drewry; aunt, Thelma Dooley; nephews, Tony (Debra) and Tim (Audrey); special family friend, Daffney Blais; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.
Henry attended Andrew Lewis High School and graduated in 1965. He was a volunteer on the Salem Rescue Squad in his younger years. Henry worked for the City of Salem – Electrical Department. He retired as General Service Supervisor with 38 years of service. His nickname during his career was “Gunther”. He loved fishing, as well as hunting with his nephews, Tony and Tim Grim. A Green Bay Packer Fan, but also enjoyed working as a team with his wife who taught him how to grow roses. He was very active with his daughters. Attended Melissa’s volley ball and soft ball games. Kristin was into karate and volley ball. They both loved going to smith mountain lake with their dad and spending time on the pontoon boat. They would often spend the day going tubing behind the boat.
A proud PaPa to his grandchildren, he loved to watch Cheyenne ride horses and compete. He was also there for Dakotah cheering him along at baseball and soccer games, wrestling matches, and of course his hockey games which is Dakotah’s favorite sport.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Franklin Health & Rehab for the exceptional and loving care he was provided. A special thank you to his physical therapist as well, Beck Boyd. She had a special way of knowing how to communicate with Henry.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in the chapel. Pastor Dava Hensley will be officiating.
