Conrad Harold Lustig
Conrad Harold Lustig, 87, of Henry, Virginia, formally of Lapeer, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home with his daughter at his bedside on Friday, December 17, 2021. He had suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years, but ultimately succumbed to COVID-19. He was born June 14, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Felix Lustig and Ethel I. Piirainen Lustig, of Detroit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Jane Trew Lustig; sister, Deloris Lustig of Detroit, Michigan; brothers, Robert Lustig of Fenton, Michigan, and Calvin Lustig of Punta Gorda, Florida.
Conrad was a gentle-natured, quiet, kind, and loving man. He loved spending time with his family and adored his daughter, Kimberly, and his eight grandchildren. He was a constant and dependable presence for his family, a thoughtful gift giver, a happy face around the holiday table, and always one to lend a helping hand to his neighbors to shovel driveways and mow lawns.
He and his wife, Sally, were longtime attenders of Faith Bible Baptist Church in Lapeer, Michigan. Conrad later faithfully attended Faith Christian Family Church in Lapeer. Faith was central to both Conrad and Sally as born-again, baptized-believers in Jesus. They always gave generously to anyone in need from the very little they had, and lived with open hearts and hands.
Conrad enjoyed his hobbies: reading the newspaper, taking long walks, collecting coffee mugs, and caring for the parakeets and cats they kept as family pets. His favorite song was Okie From Muskogee by Merle Haggard. For many years, he mowed the lawns of the city parks in Lapeer. He briefly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Sexton of Henry, Virginia; son-in-law, David P. Sexton of Salem, Virginia; grandchildren, Eleiah Sexton of Middletown, Connecticut, David M. Sexton and his wife Rebecca Sexton of Midland, Michigan, Jesse Sexton and his wife Megan Sexton of Roanoke, Virginia, Stephanie Sexton of East Haven, Connecticut, Anna Underwood and her husband Christopher Underwood of Roanoke, Virginia, Nathaniel Sexton of Moneta, Virginia, Andrew Sexton of Hamden, Connecticut, and Benjamin Sexton of Salem, Virginia; as well as great-grandchildren, Leighland, Caswell, and Reagan Sexton of Roanoke, Virginia.
Conrad will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A man of few words and a deeply generous soul.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Lapeer, Michigan.
