Hulet Williams "Monty" Montrief, II
Hulet Williams “Monty” Montrief, II, 50, of Whitsett, North Carolina, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, in Martinsville, Virginia. He was born July 10, 1971 in Martinsville, to Hulet Williams Montrief and the late Jennifer Lynn Cobbler Clark.
When he wasn’t working to support his family, Monty enjoyed time with his family, cooking, gardening, fishing, and especially reading. Monty was a fervent reader and read widely, though he especially enjoyed science fiction. He always had a stack of books near him. Monty’s love for cooking began in his childhood when he learned to cook by helping his dad in the kitchen. He loved experimenting with recipes and trying out new dishes to share with the family in the months leading to his passing. It was important to him that the family gather to cook together and share a meal. During those precious times the family shared lots of laughs and delicious food. Monty served his country in the United States Army for eight and a half years, with many tours abroad. During his time in the Army, he received awards for his intelligence work and mastered several languages including Spanish, Czech (then Czechoslovakian), and Serbo-Croatian. He enjoyed testing his sister’s Czech language skills when she followed in his footsteps by studying in the Czech Republic while at university. His brilliant mind will be terribly missed.
In addition to his father, Monty is survived by his wife, Fabiola Lopez Martinez Montrief; daughters, Grace Reynoso-Lopez and Alison Bridget Montrief; son, Kenneth Emory Montrief; sister, Dreama Lynn Montrief Johnson (Marc); brother, Joseph Inman (Jessica); Step-Mom, Cynthia “Cindy” Montrief; and Step-Father, Jerry Clark.
The visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral will be Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Raymond Moorefield officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
The family requests that everyone wear a mask.
