David Lynn Thurston

David Lynn Thurston, 78, of Salem, passed away surrounded by loved ones, on December 30th, 2022. Mr. Thurston is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Thurston; and his wife, Connie Amos Thurston.

David dedicated his life to serving his community. He served both in the Army, and as a Sheriff’s deputy in Roanoke County. Everyone knows David as a quiet, kind, and humble man. Family was very important to David, and their time spent together will be greatly cherished.

Those left here on earth to cherish his memory include his children, Daryl Thurston (Christine), and Jessica Carmen; sister, Mary; Grandchildren, Jack, Brooks, and Charlotte; and special friend and companion, Jennifer Chaney.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral home in Salem, on Thursday, January 5th, from 6 until 8 pm. A funeral service to honor his life will be held on Friday, January 6th, at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
