Mr. James "Jamey" Delmas Smith, 58, of Brookhaven Dr., Covington, Va., died Monday, July 6, 2026, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Debbie Jean Tingler Smith.

Mr. Smith was born May 18, 1968, in Clifton Forge, a son of Roscoe Delmas Smith and Jo Ann Worley Smith.

He enjoyed going to NASCAR races. In his younger days, he loved racing at Natural Bridge. He enjoyed cars and trucks and attending various car shows. He loved to cook and attending to his outdoor flowers. He also enjoyed spending time with his "Saturday Morning Breakfast Crew," Ricky and Ronda Brizendine, Steven and Donna Craft, Doug Bowen, Mike Bowen, and others.

He was a lead foreman for Sonoco. He enjoyed working with his Sonoco family.

In addition to his wife, Debbie Jean Tingler Smith, and his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Kristy and Glen Lipes; a brother, Mike and Amy Smith; brothers-in-law Steve and Cornelia Tingler and Keith and Andrea Tingler; grandsons Jackson Glen Lipes and Colton Anthony Lipes; his father-in-law, Virgil Tingler, and mother-in-law, Thelma Tingler; nieces Jordan Michaela Smith, Mikayla Tingler, and Lillian Tingler; nephews Harrison Kyle Smith, James Raines, Charlie Tingler, and Micah Tingler; sisters-in-law Lisa Osborne and Pamela and David Kincaid; brothers-in-law Robert Hinkle and Gary and Melissa Hinkle; special friends Lance Lockhart, Brian Johnson, and Don Dulaney; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Hazel Stogdale Worley; his paternal grandparents, Anna Smith Loan and Roscoe E. Smith; his stepfather, Buck Loan; and a brother-in-law, Paul Hinkle.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Covington Car Company, 912 Valley Ridge Rd., Covington, with a memorial service to be held at 6 p.m.
