Deanna Louise Blount

Deanna Louise Blount, daughter of late Eliza Ruth Manns Blount and Argrove Blount departed this life May 2, 2023, after a long illness at Sovah Hospital of Martinsville, Virginia. She was born March 14, 1963 in Monroe, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents George Willie Manns and Gaynell M. Manns; paternal grandparents Leroy Blount and Luola Blount; one nephew Devin Trotter.

Deanna graduated from Bassett High School in 1981, She was a two time MVP star player in both varsity basketball and track and field from grades 9th-12th. She was employed at Bassett Walker and Pannels Knitting Inc. before transferring to Eastmen Chemical Company where she retired in 2011 because of disability. Also, she had worked part time at McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s Pizza.

Deanna was a member Waterway Apostolic Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Deanna is survived by her son Bryson Shamar Blount of the home, sister and caregiver Valerie Manns Trotter of Bassett, Virginia; other sisters Henrietta Milton, Doris Robertson of Monroe, North Carolina, Debbie Blount of South Carolina; brothers Jamie L. Manns of Bassett, Virginia, Antoine Blount of Martinsville, Virginia and Chris Blount of New York; six aunts Dorothy Hughes, Willie Hairston, Demris Manns, Delphina Dillard of Bassett, Virginia; Ruth Bimbo of Mt. Vernon, New York; three Uncles Williams (Nancy) Manns, George (Claudine) Manns of Bassett, Virginia and David (Faye) Manns of Callands, Virginia; a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel in Bassett, VA, with her best friend and classmate, Sister Lisa Roberson Classmate officiating.
